On display were over 150 architectural models, designs and drawings by the famous architect.
From June, 27 till September 30, 2012 in the Nicholas Hall of the Winter Palace the exhibition Santiago Calatrava. The Quest for Movement, organized by the State Hermitage Museum jointly with the Santiago Calatrava Studio, Spain, with support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Embassy of Spain in Moscow, was held.
The exposition included about 150 architectural models, designs and drawings of one of the most famous and productive architects of our time.
During thirty years of architectural practice Santiago Calatrava has completed over forty large projects all over the world - museums, stadiums, train stations; and was honored with dozens of awards and prizes.
According to M.B.Piotrovsky, the Director of the State Hermitage: “In St.Petersburg, the city of bridges, it’s hard to imagine the better beginning for the cycle of the architectural exhibitions of the project “Hermitage 20/21” . I would like to perceive Santiago Calatrava and this exhibition in the State Hermitage as a bridge between the architecture of St.Petersburg of the nineteenth century to the twenty first century”.
